Over the last years, there has been a growing awareness concerning environmental issues and a conscious need for sustainable development.

Sensibility has increased thanks to the willingness and interest to learn about territorial trends and to participate in decision making for what concerns the environment.

Anthropic activities and new technology have made the implementation of more accurate monitoring processes necessary.

Waste management constitutes one of the principle areas of concern regarding the environment; from a suitable location/project of waste disposal/treatment plants as far as the operation and subsequent closure of the same are concerned.

The new European community regulations, the government legislation in force and Regional municipal regulations, aim to guarantee the efficiency of waste disposal/treatment plants through the application of the best available technology, with the purpose of safeguarding citizens and the environment.

Legislative laws, among which, monitoring procedures that involve the entire life cycle of the plant (from the building phase, to management and post management) have been enforced. Procedures concerning the set up and building phase will be assigned to external and independent’subjects’ who can provide expert technicians as well as specialists in various fields. The above, are required to conduct audits at the plants as well as furnish adequate technical support. Such procedures strengthen the already present monitoring activities in the plants, that are foreseen by the Public institutions (Province, ARPA, etc.)
